SWINDON Town boss Phil Brown spoke of the improved feeling among players regarding the team’s structure since taking charge at the Energy Check County Ground in March.

Brown, who took charge of Town from interim manager Matt Taylor following the surprise departure of David Flitcroft, revealed all of his players have spoke highly to him about his fresh approach, both in training and on the touchline.

While Town remain three points outside the League Two play-off frame having won one game in their last four, Brown is hopeful of using two games in quick succession at the County Ground to his advantage with Carlisle Untied and Yeovil Town due in the next five days.

“Tomorrow’s game isn’t last chance saloon by any stretch of the imagination,” said Brown.

“But it’s certainly a game we want to get back to winning ways.

“Every player is coming to me saying they feel like we’re a lot more solid, which is music to my ears.

“We aren’t a lot more defensive, but we are a lot more organised. And I want that expression to come out when we’ve got the ball.

“The performance on Monday wasn’t unacceptable because we got something from the game.

“But the talisman Rico (Marc Richards) came off the bench and managed to get the equaliser. It was a case of will the second one come, but it didn’t.”

Tomorrow’s clash against Carlisle will be Brown’s second game in charge at the County Ground.

And he admits he was encouraged by the response from fans during Town’s 1-1 draw against Morecambe on Good Friday.

He said: “Last week at the County Ground the punters responded to us going for it.

“I want ‘going for it’ by playing quality football in the final third.

“We got 33 final third entries on Friday, and all of those resulted in us entering the penalty area.

“So we’re playing with quality. All of them things will result in us winning a game of football.

“That’s all I can control.

“If the game’s open and expansive, we’ll play.

“But if it’s not we’ll have to fight for every inch, every tackle, every challenge and every ball to let the fans know we want to win the game.”

While Brown eyes more positives stats on the right side of the pitch, he remains aware of the dangers Carlisle pose up front.

Namely Jamie Devitt, a player who Brown guided as an apprentice at Hull City.

Brown said: “Jamie can play, he can handle a ball.

“I noticed that at Hull City. He hasn’t gone onto achieve what we though he was going to achieve but he can still hurt the opposition.

“It should be a decent game and hopefully a successful game.

“I know where Keith Curle’s concerned he wants to play football the right way.

“I’m looking forward to it. I really enjoyed watching my team play at the County Ground last time.”
