SWINDON Town boss David Flitcroft insists the chapter may not yet be closed on the club’s January transfer window business, with both incomings and exits still possible at the Energy Check County Ground.

Flitcroft has already beefed up his squad this month with the loan arrival of midfielder Ollie Banks from Oldham Athletic, the free transfer acquisition of veteran striker Marc Richards and the wrapping up of frontman Keshi Anderson on a permanent deal from Premier League outfit Crystal Palace.

The Town boss has not ruled out making further additions to his squad before the window closes at the end of the month, although the impending returns from injury of long-term absentees Timi Elsnik and Chris Hussey have played a part in his plans.

“We have still got just over 10 days and in football, it’s probably a cliché, but a lot can happen. You look at the Dion Conroy injury, from nothing, suddenly you need a centre half,” said Flitcroft.

“It is pointless while the window is still open to say we are not looking. We are monitoring two or three players and if they happen, they happen.

“The work to bring Keshi and Ollie and Marc in started quite a while ago and we were very quick to get the targets over the line and nail that.

“Towards the end of the window it can become a panic, it can become a bit of a lottery, and what you have got to bring in is the right character and the right personality and I think we have done that.

“I am delighted with the squad and it’s almost like making two more new signings as we will not have had Timi Elsnik for nine or 10 weeks by the time we get him back and Chris Hussey has been longer than that.”

Among the issues outstanding is the future of wantaway goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux, whom Flitcroft has already conceded may have played his last game for the club, and the Town boss confirmed there is potential for outgoings between now and January 31.

“We are taking phone calls on certain players and if it is the right deal for the football club and the right deal for the player, then we will look to do that,” said Flitcroft.

“We are probably a couple of players over in terms of numbers and we have had positive news on Chris Hussey and Timi Elsnik so that is in our thinking as well to really balance the squad.

“When I look at the whole picture, there is potential for players to go out but we will just make sure that we have got the numbers right.”

Banks made his debut in last Saturday's narrow home triumph over Forest Green Rovers while Richards' experience could prove vital during the run-in as the club chase promotion back into League One.

"Marc Richards is a real common sense signing,'' added Flitcroft, with Town having beaten off interest from divisional rivals Carlisle United and Saturday's opponents Coventry to land the 35 year old on a one-and-a-half year deal.

"We're a bit lightweight up front when Luke Norris is missing. Marc is a striker who loves scoring goals and his hold-up play and work is going to be important as well."

"Marc's signing has given us another leader in the building who will drive the standard and he's come in straightaway and done that. It is brilliant to have him on the training ground."

"I've chased Marc for quite a while and he's said no to me a few times. We've got it over the line this time and I'm delighted."

He added: "Now Keshi Anderson is a permanent we can really develop him and he's committed to everything we've asked of him. I'm delighted to get that one over the line."

Flitcroft is also pleased with the progress of on-loan defender Hussey after his recent hernia surgery while  on-loan midfielder Elsnik, who has been out injured since November, is poised for a return.

"Chris Hussey is making great progress after his operation - we've finally got to the bottom of it. There's still loads of football for Chris to play," added the manager.

"Amine Linganzi is medium term and we've got to get him right. I'm going to watch Timi Elsnik play for Derby's U23's on Monday."
