DAVID Flitcroft has not even started to think about the prospect of promotion at this stage of the season, although the Swindon Town manager believes his side must have a ruthless determination about them if they are to be in with a chance of achieving it.

Town climbed into the League Two play-off places at the weekend courtesy of a 1-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers at the Energy Check County Ground.

However, with two-thirds of the league programme still to play, Flitcroft says it is much too early to start thinking about any end-of-season permutations.

Instead, the Swindon boss is focussing on what attributes his side will need if they are to be contenders in the upper echelons of the table come April.

The win over Wycombe came hot on the heels of a disappointing late defeat at home to Lincoln City, in which Sean Raggett – who is on loan at the Imps from Championship side Norwich City – got the winning goal.

Flitcroft feels the qualities Raggett possess epitomise exactly what is required to be a force in the fourth tier and is keen to implement those into his Town troops.

“We are not looking at the dotted line yet,” said Flitcroft.

“We are trying to work on what we are working at. We have got to find consistency and we have got to keep backing good results up.

“That’s why last Tuesday against Lincoln, I was so disappointed that we didn’t come out of that game with a draw. I cannot tell you the sleep I didn’t have over that one moment.

“It was a good time to reflect for me as when I see players from this league who get out of it – and obviously Raggett has – the difference in him is that he is ruthless and he wants to get somewhere.

“You have got to have that on any football pitch. The best players in the world have it and have it all the time. It’s not just something that is Saturday to Saturday, it’s an everyday thing.

“We had a really committed performance on Saturday from a group who didn’t want to come off the pitch beaten.”

On-loan midfielder Timi Elsnik has been passed fit by parent club Derby County to return to training with Town this week after missing the last five matches with a groin injury.

Flitcroft said: “Timi has had the all-clear.

“They have been quite cautious with it but he is Derby’s player, so it’s something you can’t get involved with.”
