SWINDON Town chairman Lee Power has admitted that he would like to extend the loan deal of Ben Gladwin past his current stay.

Having described the move to bring Gladwin back to the County Ground as the ‘best bit of business in the world’, Power would now like to make the deal even sweeter.

The 23-year-old is due to play the last game of his 28-day Town spell this weekend when Swindon travel to Wigan Athletic in the league.

While Gladwin has not quite been able to turn the fortunes of the club around single-handedly, his solo effort on Saturday against Coventry set up a comeback and Power says that the Queens Park Rangers man has shown his quality, despite being hampered by a niggling knee injury during his short stay.

“Of course I would like him back,” said the current interim boss. “It’s the best bit of business in the world. We sold him for £3million and then got him back on loan three months later.

“You can see how he makes the team tick. In the first half (against Coventry), he was unfortunate. He found himself in those little pockets and you’re waiting for him to go on and, for whatever reason, the ball didn’t run for him.

“Also, you have got to remember that physically, he hasn’t played this season and he has had a lot of injury. To ask him to come and do two lots of 90 minutes (in less than a week) isn’t easy.

“You can see his quality from the goal. Ben has got that in him and enjoys playing here and we’d like to keep him as long as we can.”

Meanwhile, Luke Williams is the latest favourite for the vacant manager's role at Swindon.

After Ross Embleton ruled himself out of the picture to the Adver on Monday night, the current assistant manager has been valued as short a 1/10 with some bookmakers, while last week’s favourite Martin Ling has drifted to 10/1.
