Rodgers and Grant triumph in Glenmuir at the Belfry

BIG-HITTING Somerset star Hannah Grant drove the famous 10th hole at The Belfry as she and club-mate Pat Rodgers pulled off a stunning victory in the national Glenmuir Pairs tournament.
The duo, who play at Enmore Park, near Bridgwater, arrived in the West Midlands to discover the start had been delayed by overnight snow.
The competition eventually got under way with a shotgun start, with Grant and Rodgers teeing off at the 11th amid strong winds and freezing temperatures.
When they got to their last hole, the picturesque par-4 10th, Grant decided to reach for her driver and go for the green - a distance of 262 yards into a headwind, over trees and with water surrounding the putting surface.
While many men professionals have turned down the challenge over the years, including in the Ryder Cup, the one-handicapper launched her drive and it landed safely on the green.
She missed the eagle putt by a fraction but happily settled for a birdie three for three stableford points, which brought the team's better-ball total to 37.
That was sufficient to win them the titles by one from a pair from Redditch.
Grant and Rodgers, an eight-handicapper, qualified for the national finals in October after coming through a series of regional knock-out rounds.
As well as the titles, they each won a holiday voucher and a golf bag.
Grant has recently started working in the pro shop at her other club, Tiverton in Devon, for a few hours a week to help fund her proposed trip to the European Tour School at the end of the year.
