ALL Cannings A successfully defended the trophy they won last year at the Devizes festival.

The top group was decided by a single point with Nursteed gaining 10 points to Cannings’ 11, both teams going through to represent the Devizes area in the county finals in May.

The outstanding moment of the first round at Devizes RFC came from Rowdeford School, who managed to win their first game at the festival after several appear- ances.

The top teams from each group qualified through for pool one in the second round with second placed teams playing against other second placed teams and so on.

Group Five saw Five Lanes B win with 10 points narrowly ahead of St Nicholas B with nine.

A slightly more dominant performance from St Barnabas in Group Four brought them victory over All Cannings B by two points after remaining unbeaten through their four games.

Southbroom B triumphed in Group Three, winning all of their games and topping a group where there was a tie for second as Dauntsey B and Rowde A both finished on eight points and the same try difference, Dauntsey B scoring the more tries. The top three in group two all finished within a point of each other but Wansdyke A went unbeaten with two wins and two draws to snatch victory from Dauntsey A and St Joseph’s.

Students from Devizes School drew up the format of the event and refereed matches, which involved 26 teams from the Devizes area.
