Corsham U16 14, Devizes U16 17

Youth rugby: This was a match between two very evenly matched sides which showed in the final score line.

Both sides were locked in a titanic mid-field battle for more than a quarter before the hosts capitalised on a momentary laps of concentration from the visiting saddlebacks defence, going ahead through Corsham flanker and captain Lewis Jones, the conversion coming from Jack Payne to put the home side in front.

It took a further ten minutes of toil from Devizes before Flanker Hugo 0'neill broke from a ruck to score. An un-characteristic miss at the extra's from Devizes fly half Joe Burrow put the score at 7-5 to the home side until half-time.

The second half started in much the same vain as the first with a lot of effort with little to show territorially for either team.

A rolling maul from the saddlebacks released Devizes man of the match O'neill on a storming run, deftly laying off to Centre Henry Marlow score. The visitors advantage was short-lived with Corsham man of the match winger Chris Bull being bundled over to put the home side back in front 14-10.

The match clincher came in the last five minutes from Devizes.

A scrum to the visitors 5 metres out, saw the formidable Saddlebacks pack drive their Corsham counter-parts back, allowing the number eight Charlie Bouch to peel off the back to score. Joe Burrows collected the extras to put the visitors in front for a grandstand finish.
