Wimborne 42, Corsham 10
Rugby: Corsham slipped to a 42-10 defeat at Wimborne in Southern Counties South, a week after securing their league status for the following season.
Fielding a much-changed fifteen, Corsham blooded colts Rhys Jones and Jack Hargett against the Dorset outfit and it was Jones, an England Under 18 international second row, who grabbed the visitors' only try.
That, coupled with a penalty and conversion from scrum-half and fellow colt Tom Simons, edged Corsham into a 10-5 lead at the break.
Wimborne had already looked threatening when moving the ball wide and this tactic paid dividends in the second half as they found their handling to run in five tries for an ultimately comfortable victory.
Corsham's youthful third string, meanwhile, lost out 56-0 to a strong and more experienced North Dorset third string.
Corsham's Old Players Association will be in attendance at Saturday's league double-header at Lacock Road. The first team host fellow Wiltshire side Wootton Bassett in Southern Counties South (3pm), with the second string entertaining neighbouring Cooper-Avon Tyres in an earlier kick-off (1pm).
The Corsham club have also been playing host to the BBC this week as filming continues for an adaptation of Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles. The production, whose cast includes new Bond girl Gemma Arterton and Anna Massey, have been utilising the rugby club as a base unit while filming in the Corsham locality.
