BATH'S Sam Underhill has revealed he ignored his phone to cope with the contrasting fortunes of a challenging fortnight in his first NatWest 6 Nations.

The England flanker produced a remarkable try-saving tackle against Wales that helped secure a 12-6 victory, only to then be sin-binned for a no-arms tackle at a crucial point of the defeat by Scotland two weeks later.

"I dealt with both much the same - I just put my phone away for a bit," the 21-year-old Bath openside said.

"It's obviously disappointing but from a team and an individual perspective you need those experiences to learn from. You're not going to go through life winning every game.

"You need the games where things don't go so well to learn how to react and adapt. You try and turn it into a positive if you can."

England will look to rebuild their Six Nations title defence when they face France in Paris on Saturday having been dispatched 25-13 by Scotland.

"I don't think an awful lot has changed. It's not like there's been a massive change in the team. A bad game doesn't make a bad player," Underhill said.

"The only thing we can do from here is improve and get better. I don't think we've really got an option.

"It's another obstacle and we've made things a little bit more difficult for ourselves but we'll take that head on."
