WINGER Aled Brew admits the potential Aviva Premiership play-off permutations add an extra layer of significance to Bath’s trip to Wasps this weekend.

The two sides, alongside leaders Saracens, have been the form teams in the league so far this season and boast eight wins from their opening 10 league games.

Bath were able to hold on to the coat-tails of Sarries when they beat them in their last Premiership game back on December 3, and they will be eager to do the same against Wasps on Saturday.

With the top two finishers guaranteed home semi-finals in the end-of-season shoot-out, Welshman Brew knows the importance of sticking as close to those positions as possible right up until May.

“Wasps will be unhappy with their loss to Connacht (in the European Champions Cup) at the weekend but they are a great team,” said Brew.

“We have done our homework and if we stick to what we have discussed in training and execute things well, I think we are going to cause them a lot of trouble.

“We do take each game as it comes but in the back of our minds, we have got to make those play-offs and we’d love a home spot as well.

“We have got to keep on performing and take things away from each game.”

Brew, who has won nine caps for Wales since a debut back in 2007, was celebrating signing a new contract at Bath this week which will keep him at the club until the end of next season.

The 30-year-old originally arrived at The Rec on a short-term deal from September to December after leaving Welsh side Newport Gwent Dragons.

He has made an instant impact with his new club and been involved in almost every matchday squad since his arrival, so is delighted to be staying around for the long term.

“I am really chuffed. I have thoroughly enjoyed being here and when I got the chance to sign on, I grabbed it with two hands,” said Brew, who has also played for French team Biarritz.

“I had a couple of tough years down at the Dragons so to come to a club like this and be welcomed, wanted and appreciated, has been amazing.

“Originally I thought I would get a chance when the autumn internationals were on, so I was pretty surprised to be involved so early on.”
