FIRST-TEAM coach Darren Edwards says Bath Rugby will just be taking it one game at a time as they look to turn last weekend’s win over London Irish into a sustained revival.

Bath claimed just a second victory in 10 fixtures so far in 2016 when they downed bottom side Irish 25-17 at home and are now looking to mount a charge up the Aviva Premiership table.

Mike Ford’s side, who reached the Premiership final last season, are still down in ninth and owner Bruce Craig used his programme notes ahead of the Exiles game to state that his aim this season was a top-six finish and qualification for the European Champions Cup for next season.

Bath are back in action tomorrow evening when they travel away to Harlequins, who sit immediately above them in the table, but Edwards says the team are not looking at any long-term goals at the moment.

“We are just taking it one week and one game at a time, like we always have done,” said Edwards.

“We aren’t looking at where we can finish. We are just looking at trying to climb the table each week.

“Harlequins are the next team above us, so they are the next target, and it’s them who we have next. Our focus is just on them.

“It’s a shorter turnaround as it’s a Friday game but it’s always special playing under the lights, so we are looking forward to the game.

“They have lost a couple of games recently, so they will be looking for that win like we were. The Stoop is always a difficult place to go, so it will be another tough game.”

Bath’s success over Irish was also their first at home since the turn of the year.

Edwards was happy the team were able to give the fans something to cheer but added that it was crucial that Bath stuck to their attacking principles.

“It was important that we won and performed at The Rec. The fans have been fantastic with us all season and it is important to give something back to them,” added Edwards.

“We want to win games by attacking the opposition and playing exciting rugby.

“The work starts on Monday and the game is the last thing we do in the week. For the players to get that result makes what we do all week make sense.

“There’s always a spring in your step after a win but you have to win to justify what you do, so training has been fun since coming back in on Monday.”

Fly-half/centre Dan Bowden and scrum-half Niko Matawalu have both been ruled out for the season after undergoing surgery on their respective injuries.

There is some good news for Bath on the injury front, however, as Japan number eight Amanaki Mafi is fit to return against Harlequins, having missed the win over Irish.
