BATH scrum-half Jonathan Evans is to join Welsh region the Scarlets after just one season in English rugby.

The Scarlets have announced a two-year deal for Evans from next term.

The 23-year-old former Newport Gwent Dragons number nine moved to Bath last summer, but his first-team opportunities have been limited at the Recreation Ground.

“Despite not getting as much time on the pitch as I’d like, I do feel I’ve developed as a player since I joined Bath”, said Evans.

“I’m looking forward to challenging for a starting spot at Scarlets next season, and it will be good to be back in Wales, but I’m just focusing on the rest of the season here at Bath and pushing to remain in the matchday squad.”

Evans will increase the Scarlets' scrum-half resources, joining up with Wales squad members Gareth Davies and Aled Davies in Llanelli.

“Jonny’s been a good addition to our squad this season”, added Bath head coach Mike Ford.

“We’ve got some very talented scrum-halves in the squad, and we’re sorry to see him go, but I’m sure he’ll be a great success at Scarlets.”
