A CHANCE encounter led to international honours for Ramsbury teenager Luke Callaghan.

The 15-year-old, a pupil at St John’s School in Marlborough, will represent Scotland U16s as they take on England South, England North and France next week at the Wellington College Festival.

Flanker Callaghan, who plays for Wiltshire champions Corsham U16s and is a member of the Dorset & Wilts squad, came through selection camps north of the border last month to earn his place.

His father Neil said: “At a Dorset & Wilts U17s trial we happened to speak with another parent who had a representative from Scottish Exiles coming to see a couple of lads at Marlborough College the next day.

“I called him to mention Luke and that night we were invited to Richmond that same night for registration.’’

The youngster from Whittonditch Road, whose mum Sue is from Edinburgh, said: “It’s going to be a great experience.

“I got into the Exiles from nowhere really and I didn’t ever really think it (Scotland call-up) was going to happen.’’
