DEVIZES maintained their impressive form in Southern Counties South with victory over their top-half rivals.

The game was plagued by horrendous conditions, but the home side made an ideal start from the kick-off.

Dorchester fumbled and Steve McCraith kicked through to touch down inside the opening 30 seconds.

As the rain hammered down, Dorchester then infringed, allowing fly-half Andy Thompson to boot his side further into the lead from the penalty.

Dorchester came back into it with a try of their own before half time, Dave Gower’s chip allowing James Baker to score in the corner.

The second half continued to be littered with mistakes, but Devizes were determined in defence to keep their opponents out.

The visitors dominated in the scrum, but led by skipper James Gaiger and scrum-half Tom Collins, the Saddlebacks managed to maintain possession.

The clinching score came in the final few moments as full-back Luke Rapson jinked past three defenders from 50 metres to touch down, Thompson adding the conversion.
