Crockett ready for Bath legal battle

Yatton Keynell rugby star Alex Crockett could take legal action against Bath Rugby after resigning from the club on Monday.

The 27-year-old centre was one of a three players to step down along with fellow joint captain Michael Lipman and Andrew Higgins.

The trio terminated their contracts immediately before an investigation into their alleged failure to take a drugs test on three occasions.

“We have made every effort to work with the club to resolve our differences. Sadly, we have been unable to do so,” said the players’ solicitor Richard Mallett.

“It has been suggested in sections of the media that we have refused to provide samples for anti-doping purposes, but this is untrue.

“Anonymous sources have also made allegations against us to the club. We completely refute these allegations, which are both false and defamatory.”

Earlier, Bath chief executive Bob Cajella had confirmed in an official statement that the trio had failed to take a drugs test following allegations made after an end-of-season party on May 10.

The Professional Rugby Players Association said it was ‘extremely concerned’ about the allegations.”

In February, Bath and England’s Matt Stevens was banned for two years after testing positive for cocaine.
