CORSHAM lifted the Bath Combination Plate as they came from behind to defeat Stothert & Pitt at the Rec in Bath.

Despite a strong start from Stothert, the Corsham defence remained resolute, yielding just a penalty in the opening stages and they drew level when Kalif Barnes slotted a three-pointer.

The Lacock Road men took the lead through a try by Ian Cook, converted by Barnes, but despite dominating territory and possession, they were unable to add to their tally in the first half.

Stothert raised their game in the second period, fighting back to take the lead with two unconverted tries, but Corsham summoned the spirit that has served them well in Southern Counties South this season to surge back in the final 15 minutes.

From a five metre scrum they powered over for a pushover try by Ben Russell, converted by Barnes, to take the lead 17-13 before captain Will Chivers went over in the corner to seal the victory.

Corsham head coach Tim Draper said: "It was a really good, competitive game and both teams played their part in an exciting final.

"After losing in the final last year it was fantastic for the guys to go one step further.

" caps a great season for the senior section of the club with the second team securing a league and cup double.''
