CHIPPENHAM rounded off their South West One East campaign as their 52-12 win at Stratford-upon-Avon confirmed their third-placed finish.

The visitors withstood some early Stratford pressure and opened the scoring when Aaron Clarke crossed the line, but the home side responded by taking the lead with a converted score.

Chippenham were back in front when fly-half Dan Wainwright touched down and added the conversion and the advantage was stretched when scrum-half Tom Fogerty added the third try and Wainwright kicked the conversion.

The bonus point was secured before the interval as Jacob Unwin intercepted and ran in from long range, Wainwright again adding the extras.

Wing Brad Doggett got the scoreboard ticking over immediately after the start of the second period and Matt Dickens added a further score, again converted by Wainwright.

A drive allowed skipper Ryan Surry the opportunity to touch down for a converted score and Doggett added his second, again converted by Wainwright, to wrap up the Chippenham scoring, Stratford crossing the line again before the final whistle.

Chippenham are due to take on Keynsham in the final of the Bath Combination Cup at Bath's Rec tomorrow night (8pm).

Royal Wootton Bassett confirmed a top-half placing in at South West One level for the first time in their history as they defeated Old Centralians 38-29 at Ballards Ash.

The home side started well and were rewarded when veteran prop Chris Rowland drove over in the corner in the second minute.

A period of forward dominance was rewarded as the Gloucester side evened things up at with a concerted drive over the line but an excellent break from the back of a maul by number eight Kyle Lovell fed second row Sam Robinson who broke the defensive line and fed winger Ieuan Clements, who raced over from 25 metres to restore Bassett's advantage.

Fly-half Tom Fieldsend added a long-range conversion but just on the half hour Cents forwards again went over in the corner for an unconverted try.

Quick thinking from Fieldsend saw him take a quick tap and go penalty feeding skipper Phil Bardwell who had a simple touchdown, Fieldsend converting but with the home side reduced in number by a sin-binning, Cents went over for a pushover try to reduce the Bassett lead to 19-15 at the interval.

Bassett extended their lead as early as the second minute of the half when young centre Elye Darragh's break saw Fieldsend backing up and racing over to secure the bonus point.

Centralians hit back immediately, securing their own bonus point with a converted try to leave the score at 24-22.

Another break from Darragh saw the ball released to full-back Fin Dewar, who outpaced the defence to score, Fieldsend converting.

Once again Cents hit back with a converted try but Bassett secured the spoils when veteran utility forward Chris Patterson went on one of his trademark runs to drive over, Fieldsend adding the extras.
