MARLBOROUGH moved into second spot in Southern Counties South as they downed Devizes 31-10 in their replayed league fixture on Saturday.

The original playing of the contest in October had been abandoned after Devizes centre Sam Jones had sustained a neck injury but in the rerun, the home side's first-half blitz proved decisive.

A good start from Marlborough saw them over with a try by Joeli Radovu who used his blistering pace to beat the defenders and sprint down the right wing.

Jake Williams converted and as a period of Devizes dominance went unrewarded, the second try of the game again came from Radovu who this time time caught a clearance kick and outpaced the cover to cross the line.

Williams again converted and with the home side on top, five minutes later the third try came when the returning James Farrell, went in after a pass from Williams.

Things worsened for the Saddlebacks as both Rory Brown and Ben Wilkinson went off after a collision, wing Matty Holloran having earlier departed with a cut hand.

The arrivals of Russ Hudson and Julian Taylor meant Devizes had exhausted all their substitutes.

A scrappy second half saw the Saddlebacks get on the board as Craig Bryant dummied his way through the tackle and offloaded to the supporting Josh Gould to over in the corner.

With Marlborough reduced in number by a sin-binning, Devizes continued to batter away and prop Toby Randall found himself in the unfamiliar position on the wing to go over to make it 21-10.

In the final minutes, Marlborough added a further score before Williams kicked a penalty to secure the win.
