DEVIZES Ladies broke their duck in South West One as Chipping Sodbury were comprehensively put to the sword 44-10 on Sunday.

Having never before beaten their rivals, Devizes set about their task with gusto, the forwards making the first real impact with a driving maul that saw the ball recycled for full-back Natalie A’Bear to go over out wide.

Not to be outdone by her sister, Fay A’Bear then burst through the line to sprint over from 40 metres and Devizes continued to run riot as Abi Dalton strode through the defence and showed some silky footwork to outfox the Sodbury full-back.

Following another period of pressure for Devizes, Jo Emslie went over the line after some imperious offloading.

Sodbury managed to break through for an unconverted push over try on the stroke of half time but Devizes started the second half as they meant to go on with Lauren Nelson setting off on a barnstorming run after catching the restart.

After a series of offloads, replacement Gemma Holton eventually went over the line.

This was followed by another for Emslie after captain Leah Reynolds picked up a loose ball and offloaded expertly.

Candice Walters then sprinted 50 metres to dot down under the posts with Denise Warbutton popping over the conversion.

With Chelsea Butler coming on to make her debut for the ladies from the girls set-up, the scoring was finished off by the industrious Georgia Walker who sprinted half the pitch to go over under the posts, again converted by Warbutton before Sodbury added their second try.
