MINCHINHAMPTON lifted the main prize at Saturday's Minety 7s tournament, overcoming RAF Horus in a sudden-death shootout after a dramatic final.

Fourteen teams entered this year’s tournament, organised by Minety’s Jack Ward and were divided into two groups of seven teams.

Horus and Swindon College Old Boys emerged as the top two sides from Pool A, while three teams tied for top spot in a dramatic Pool B as Caveman 7s, Cirencester RFC and Minchinhampton finished with 10 points each.

Points difference saw Minchinhampton and Caveman 7s tied once again, with progress decided via the toss of a coin.

Minchinhampton won and moved into the main cup final against Pool A winners Horus, leaving Caveman 7s to compete with Swindon College Old Boys for the Plate.

Caveman 7s broke through Swindon College's defences in the final moments of extra time for the plate win, with Minchinhampton doing likewise to lift the cup.
