DEVIZES Ladies wrapped up at least runners-up spot in South West North Two with a comfortable 39-7 victory over Gordano Ladies on Sunday.

The Wiltshire side are now four points behind leaders Westbury going into the final round of fixtures on March 18-19, with Devizes hosting Chew Valley and Westbury going to Gordano.

In atrocious conditions, the visitors fell behind when Gordano scored a converted try to lead at the midway point of the first half.

Devizes then rallied with strong forward play helping to set up a first try of the season for second row Lauren Nelson, converted by Denise Warbutton.

The visitors began the second half with gusto, a second try coming from Pippa Adamthwaite-Cook, who finished neatly in the corner.

That try seemed to buoy Devizes and a third try followed with Siobhan Spiers dotting down, Warbutton converting.

Devizes were beginning to get quick ball and it paid dividends when winger Emily Bain went over in the corner.

The increased pressure and tempo was too much for Gordano and resulted in a fast-moving rolling maul which was finished off by captain Kate Stradling.

Alice Bowerbank then scored a try after some quick thinking from a tap penalty and the scoring was rounded off by Spiers who went over for her second of the day.

Devizes will host Chew Valley on Saturday week (March 18, 2.15pm).
