CALNE maintained their push for a top three finish in Dorset & Wilts Two North as a dominant first-half display set up a 33-12 triumph at Westbury.

Heavy rain before the game resulted in a scrappy affair as both sides struggled to hold onto the ball.

Calne quickly established control in the forwards as captain Tom Morten opened the scoring from a driving maul 10 metres out.

This set the scene for much of the first half, with both packs battling it out in tough conditions.

Westbury looked dangerous with well-organised attacks but it was the visitors who would score again after fine work from centres Marcus Turner and Adam Young, scrum-half Matt Kelly crashing over.

Westbury responded as man of the match and flanker Ryan Knight took a quick tap penalty and crossed the try line, fly-half Aaron Vaughan adding the conversion.

But Calne stepped up the pace and after some good link-up play between Adam Young and Marcus Turner, Cameron Davies who made a powerful run, holding off tackles to score under the posts. Full-back Mark Webber again converted.

Calne started to turn the screw on their hosts as winger Jay Watkin made a burst down the touchline and evaded some desperate tackles before scoring in the corner.

The visitors secured a bonus point on the brink of half-time after Young broke through to unleash Marcus Turner to score in the corner, Webber's conversion being successful off a post for a 33-7 interval lead.

The second half was a much tighter affair with Calne having to defend for long periods, Westbury reducing their deficit with an unconverted try from when Knight went over from the back of a ruck, after Vaughan’s excellent positional kicking had moved Calne around.
