CHIPPENHAM'S revival in South West One East was brought to an emphatic halt as they were hammered 80-17 at title-chasing Maidenhead on Saturday.

The Wiltshire men had hauled themselves away from the foot of the table with five wins in the seven previous league matches but came unstuck as the Maids bounced back from their previous defeat at Banbury to the pressure up on division leaders Old Patesians with a 12-try romp.

Two tries down inside the first six minutes of the contest at Braywick, the visitors had shipped a further four scores by the interval, through Tom Finnie, twice, Christoph Bart, Sam Churchyard, Lewis Jones and Will Thompson, Finnie adding four conversions.

Aaron Ascott responded for Chippenham, with Dom Riccio converting as their side trailed 38-7 at the break.

Mike Burnett and fellow winger Stephen Prince dotted down for the home side after half-time but Chippenham responded with scores from Kyran Broughton and Lewis Surry as they chased a try bonus point in vain.

Bart added two more scored for the hosts, Mark Childerhouse and Jack Hill also crossing as Finnie was faultless with the boot after the interval.
