CORSHAM made it nine wins from nine in Dorset & Wilts One North - but lost their top spot as Warminster's 72-5 thumping of Chippenham 2nd saw them take over at the summit.

The Lacock Road side secured a seventh try bonus point of the season to date in the 29-12 triumph over neighbours Melksham, setting the scene for a titanic struggle a week on Saturday when they travel to face Warminster at Folly Lane.

Hamish Milner, Ryan Jones, Robbie Robinson, Alex Twigg and Ben Russell crossed for tries for the home side, while two conversions from Dan Goldsworthy made up the balance of points.

The home team rallied for Adam Davies to score from a powerful run crashing through the defence, Callum Hurn adding the extras in the first half.

The second period followed a similar pattern, Jonny Mills going in out wide for Melksham's second as their six-match winning streak was brought to an end.

Head coach Tim Draper said: "The bonus point win was gained with some great running rugby, but we need to become more clinical in attack to take full advantage of the possession we are securing.

"That will be important as the next league game against Warminster is a top of the table clash and they are also unbeaten so far this season.''

Minety slipped to their fifth defeat of the campaign as they were ousted 22-19 at home by Royal Wootton Bassett 2nd.

The home side took the lead in the 15th minute when scrum-half Garin Garland slotted a penalty from 25 metres but Bassett hit back five minutes later after some sustained pressure had pinned the villagers back in their own 22, securing a converted try.

Minety struck back four minutes later when Garland fed captain Andrew Hibbard, who crashed through the defence to score near the posts, Garland’s conversion restoring the home team’s lead at 10-7 before he extended the advantage with a well-taken penalty.

The visitors hit back soon after when an attempted clearance kick was charged down and Minety’s defence were unable to reset, yielding an unconverted score, but a third Garland penalty made it 16-12 to Minety at half-time.

The home side started the second half promisingly. in their final matches for the village club, long-serving flanker Steve Brown and winger Ben Langridge both putting in huge tackles to force Bassett back.

But the match changed direction in the 60th minute when Minety were forced into major alterations up front after prop forward Peter Andrews was withdrawn with a head injury and Garland was yellow-carded.

With Minety down to 14, Bassett took control and crossed for their third try wide on the left in the 66th minute before their fourth match-winning score followed soon afterwards.

Garland, back from his 10 minutes in the sin-bin, kicked a penalty in the 73rd minute, but the home side were unable to convert pressure into points.

Pewsey scored an emphatic 48-10 win against local rivals Devizes 2nds to get back to winning ways.

A try from James Haynes, which he converted, got the scoreboard moving and although Devizes hit back with an unconverted score, Vale number eight Phil Vallis and flanker Olly Spence scored from pushover scores as the scrum dominated.

Haynes converted the Vallis score, as he did when centre Pete Baird went over before half-time

Tries from Mike Paddick, Haynes, wing Toni Bloomfield and prop Guy Ellis completed the win in the second half.
