CALNE delivered a psychological blow to Westbury ahead of this weekend’s Dorset and Wilts Junior Vase final.

With the two sides colliding at North Dorset RFC on Saturday for the chance to move into the national stages of the competition, Calne got the better of their visitors in this Dorset and Wilts Two North contest as they ran out 31-17 winners.

Matt Kelly put the hosts into the lead with a try that was converted by Rhys Taylor, only for Westbury to respond through Darren Fuller, Aaron Vaughan levelling the scores with the extras.

Fuller bagged his second for Westbury soon after but Taylor crossed the whitewash for Calne before adding the conversion to his own score to make it 14-12.

A Calne penalty and a second try for Vaughan saw the two side level at the interval.

After the break, Calne saw a Cameron Davies try, along with three penalties, seal the win.

Blair’s brace not enough

MINETY 2nd fell to a 36-26 home defeat to Supermarine.

Matt Stone’s team gave up a try early on in the match but hit back with scores from second row Colin French and inside centre Jon Blair.

Fly-half Kieran Gash scored their third try just before half-time but they were unable to stamp their authority over a Supermarine team who kept coming back at them.

Strong forward play at the start of the second half saw Supermarine take the lead through a try but Minety hit back when Blair scored his second try to close the gap to just three points.

Supermarine exploited Minety’s defensive lapses and extended their lead to seal the 36-26 win.
