DEVIZES claimed their first win of the Southern Counties South season after a late Craig Bryant try saw them return home with a 29-24 success at Wimborne.

The Saddlebacks took a 6-0 lead thanks to two penalties from Andy Thompson.

However, the hosts hit back with two converted tries before Thompson added his third kick from the tee before a try from tighthead Matt Bishop, following a rolling maul, sent the two sides into at the break 14-14.

Tom Reed muscled his way over for Devizes after the interval, following some good work from Luke Rapson, for a converted score before the hosts levelled matters.

Thompson then added a drop goal to give Devizes a 24-21 lead, however, Wimborne responded in kind soon after.

But Devizes sealed the win when Bryant peeled off a rolling maul to score.

Marlborough kept up their unbeaten start to their league campaign with a hard-fought 22-17 win at Walcot. The hosts took the lead with a penalty, before spurning two more three-pointers to stretch their lead.

However, the Southern Counties South table-toppers took the lead when winger Ratu Vuira scored under the posts, Garth Bari added the conversion.

Despite Walcot going close to crossing for a try, it was the visitors who went over next as Amori Nailago dotted down.

After the break, Marlborough saw a man sent to the bin for swinging and arm and Walcot took full advantage of the extra man with a converted try to make it 12-10.

However, Vuira bagged his second of the match, which was again converted by Bari, before the hosts responded with seven points of their own to reduce the arrears to 19-17, only for a Bari penalty to seal the win.
