COLERNE continued their unbeaten start to the season in Dorset and Wilts Two North as they defeated Melksham 2nd 21-7.

Colerne went into the game with a full strength side and had their noses in front from the start when Ed Godfrey intercepted a pass to race away and score under the posts. Leigh Wheatley added the extras.

After 20 minutes, Colerne came close to stretching their lead when Jono Fry got to the try line. However the ball was stripped from him before he could ground it.

However, the hosts made no mistake four minutes later when, after a kick was charged down in the dead ball area, the resulting five-metre scrum saw skipper Ryan Willcox barrel over. Wheatley again added the conversion to make the score 14-0 at half-time.

Colerne made a host of changes at half time and heavy pressure from the Blacks saw Melksham pinned to their own line during the third quarter.

A fine break from Godfrey was abruptly ended following a high tackle that saw the referee award a penalty try. Wheatley’s conversion made it 21-0 with 28 minutes remaining.

However, Colerne were unable to grab the bonus points score with a break from Hugh Campbell the closest they got.

The visitors then bagged a converted try with the final play of the match.

Calne picked up their first win of the campaign when they entertained Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd and ran out 35-10 winners.

However, Sutton Benger's trip to Doric Park ended in defeat as their unbeaten hosts Trowbridge 2nd claimed a 14-10 victory, while Chippenham 3rd fell to a 29-17 reverse at Westbury.
