DEVIZES Ladies started their South West 2 campaign with a 44-0 success at newcomers Chew Valley.
Mary Wallington got the ball rolling for the visitors as she dotted down in the corner after some good early Devizes pressure.
They bagged their second try soon after when they showed some good hands to send hooker Sophie Scratchley over for her first try for the club. Denise Warbutton added the extras.
Captain Kate Stradling then crashed through the Valley defence to score under to the posts. Warbutton’s conversion gave Devizes a 19-0 lead.
Candice Walters scored on her debut for the Wiltshire ladies after a fine break from Natalie A’Bear, before the pair combined again, this time the latter crossing the whitewash. Warbutton converted one of the tries before slotting a penalty to give Devizes a 31-0 lead at the break.
Devizes rang the changes at the interval, however, that did not interrupt their stranglehold on the game.
Impressive scrummaging all match saw Devizes stretch their lead even further when they took one against the head to allow Warbutton to dive over.
Despite losing momentum and coming under pressure from Chew, Devizes held firm.
Fly-half Alice Bowerbank completed the scoring for the day for the visitors.
