SUTTON Benger got their Dorset & Wilts Two North campaign off to a fine start with a 21-12 success over Calne.

Jay Watkins and skipper Tom Morten scored tries for Calne, Rhys Taylor adding a conversion, but Callum Harford slotted two penalties for the hosts and Matt Rea and Oli Mayer both crossed for tries for Benger.

Colerne also made a winning start as they defeated Cricklade 29-24.

Despite missing an early kick at goal, Colerne broke the deadlock with a penalty try to take a 7-0 lead into the break.

After the interval, Cricklade stormed into a 24-7 lead after three converted scores and penalty.

However, Colerne took advantage when a free-kick saw the ball quickly spread wide to allow Ed Godfrey to cross. Ryan Willcox added the extras.

This gave Colerne a shot in the arm bringing a renewed belief in themselves and the pressure that ensued led to Cricklade giving away a slew of penalties and finding themselves under pressure from the referee.

Rory Cunningham barged through to score an unconverted try, before Tom Fry touched down to end a flowing move that tied the scores at 24-24 with five minutes remaining.

The hosts controlled the final minutes and crossed on the stroke of full-time with a try from Jamie Duncan.
