CAPTAIN Andrew Hibbard and Matt Roberts bagged a brace of tries each as Minety roared back into fourth place in the table after an entertaining win at home to Chippenham 2nd.

The hosts started strongly, with scrum-half Duncan Simpson driving forward, and the visitors forced to defend their own line.

Against the run of play, Chippenham opened the scoring with a penalty but despite the smaller pack, Minety were soon in front when Jack Ward slotted two of his own.

Minety’s first try started almost on their own try-line. A fine break from flanker Harry Neal ended with a pass to Hibbard, who popped the ball to centre Roberts, and he ran in from inside his own half.

The hosts extended their lead to 16-3 in the final minute of the half when Hibbard collected a pass from Ward.

Chippenham started the second half strongly and only a fine tackle from full-back Dale Langdown prevented a try. The pressure soon told when a flowing move saw the visitors score their first try.

Minety hit back with two tries in four minutes. Roberts grabbed his second before flanker Stephen Brown ran in from near halfway after a Hibbard break from a scrum.

Another excellent move between Brown and Hibbard saw the latter cross for his second and Minety’s fifth try, extending the lead to 31-8.

Chippenham fought back in the final 10 minutes as the Minety pack tired and scored two tries to reduce the deficit.
