CALNE climbed to third in Dorset & Wilts Two North with a comprehensive demolition of hosts Cricklade on Saturday.

The visitors stamped their authority on the match with a well-worked try from a lineout which was driven over by the pack to allow Rob Spratt to crash over.

Calne’s front row of Pete Brownlie, hooker Dave Evans and Tom Morten were dominating the scrums and, in the first half, Calne crossed the try line five times with Mark Webber, Rhys Taylor twice, Adam Baker and Marcus Turner touching down.

Taylor kicked four conversions from five to put Calne into a commanding 33-0 lead at half time.

As the second half began Calne went into cruise control, with the ever consistent Bruce Harper bashing holes in the defence.

Mark Webber attacked from deep at every opportunity and was rewarded with his second try as the backs created an overlap.

Substitute Adam Young came in at centre and he had an immediate impact as he smashed holes in the tiring Cricklade defence, Baker scoring the final try of the game.

Captain Morten said: "It's fantastic to win away from home but it was the manner of which we went about our business that impressed me the most.

"Scoring lots of tries is great but not letting the opposition score is just as satisfying.

Chairman Chris Austin added: "There is a real togetherness at the club right now and every player in the squad is proud to be playing for their town and each other.
