PEWSEY produced a strong second-half performance to secure a 14th straight Dorset & Wilts Two North win after a disjointed first half in which they allowed the visitors too much time on the ball.

From the kick off Combe took field position, gained a penalty and then caught Pewsey napping with a quick tap, running in unopposed to score wide out.

Ten minutes later a penalty gave the visitors an 8-0 lead, but from the restart a great individual effort from number eight Phil Vallis saw him charge in from halfway.

Two Combe tries before the half hour took the score to 18-5 and prompted an urgent rethink in the Pewsey ranks.

Fly-half James Haynes pulled back a penalty, then just before the half time whistle wing Toni Bloomfield rounded the defence to score in the corner.

Kicking off the second half Pewsey surged forward and from front foot pressure a subsequent penalty, quickly taken, sent the ball to flanker Olly Spence who drove to the whitewash from 20 metres out.

Pewsey started to dominate field position and kept play down in Combe’s half with some fine kick and chase pressure.

In a 10-minute period Bloomfield grabbed a brace of tries to complete his hat-trick, Haynes converting the second.

Combe came back and defensive confusion in the Pewsey back ranks allowed them in for a soft try.

But five minutes before time more Pewsey go-forward put flanker Chris Bartley over for a try, Haynes adding the extras.
