DEVIZES produced a thrilling comeback to stun Western Counties North high-flyers Keynsham in the Bath Combination Cup.

The Saddlebacks, fourth in Southern Counties South rested players for the tie, allowing the likes of Will Hine, Scott Martin, Jordy Walker, Hamish Quigley and Harry Purdie an opportunity to show what they could do.

In atrocious conditions, neither side were able to gain the upper hand in the opening quarter before an early injury to Tim Alchin saw Hine come on as a blood replacement.

However, the back row forward was soon in the sin-bin after conceding three penalties in the space of 10 seconds.

The visitors grabbed the opening try, when from a five-metre scrum, they pushed forward and their number eight dotted down.

Despite fly-half Travis Orwin putting in a great hit for the hosts, Keynsham were able to double their lead with a well-worked try to take a 10-0 into the break.

As the conditions got worse, another solid maul from Keynsham saw them take a 15-0 after the interval.

Devizes upped the pressure and they started to gain territorial advantage following some fine carries from man-of-the-match Toby Randall, Martin and Charlie Paget.

After several phases of play, the Saddlebacks got their first of the day when flanker Craig Bryant burrowed over from close range.

Devizes started to stretch the visitors defence and reduced their lead to seven points when Chris Barter kicked a penalty.

Quick thinking from Barter from a tap penalty, which saw Keynsham have a player sent to the bin, allowed him to run in a try.

And the visitors conceded a another penalty which Barter duly converted to hand Devizes an unlikely victory.
