PEWSEY retained their unbeaten record this season with an emphatic win against Westbury, who had run the home team close in the semi-final of the Dorset & Wilts Vase earlier in the season.

Vale were first on the scoreboard after three minutes when fly-half James Haynes slotted a penalty.

Two well-worked tries in the next 20 minutes followed from centre Chris Takel, who showed real pace combined with back line savvy to hit the whitewash in style, the second try being converted by Haynes, who then added a penalty.

Pewsey had held field position throughout the game and as the clock ticked down Pewsey pressure told.

In the 20-minute period following the penalty, flanker Olly Spence scored a hat-trick of tries, Haynes slotting one to take the score to 35-0.

Westbury finally got into Vale’s five metre zone and took a well set converted try with 10 minutes to go.

But Pewsey responded at the restart and another adventurous backs' move had wing Toni Bloomfield over in the corner.

Pewsey coach Mick Haynes said: "Field position was held, making it difficult for the opposition to attack from their own 22.

"Our support play was tremendous and the pressure was ever-present. It was a great team performance.''
