PEWSEY put on a demonstration of scoring power as they swept aside Melksham 2nd to maintain their perfect start in Dorset & Wilts Two North.

Melksham were first on the scoreboard as Vale were caught napping at a quick tap penalty and a direct runner was over for the five points, unconverted.

Vale responded immediately forcing a penalty, prop James Campbell taking the three points.

At the end of the first quarter quick hands sent the ball out to outside centre Ty Lewis who angled his run, dispatching two defenders on the way, to touch down in the corner, Campbell’s kick drifting wide.

With Pewsey having a firm grip on the game, offloads to strike runners proved most effective as the forwards surged again, making the hard yards.

Two converted tries with a penalty in between, all points scored by Campbell, had Pewsey 25- 5 to the good as the half time whistle went.

From the restart Pewsey dominated territory and field position and within 10 minutes Campbell completed his hat-trick of converted tries followed by Lewis with two tries in two minutes to notch up his treble, the latter two unconverted.

Three tries in the last quarter, with another two disallowed, completed the day.

First up was hooker Chris Hill, followed by fly-half James Haynes and scrum-half Chris Takel, Haynes adding the extras.

Coach Mick Haynes said: "We need to be more careful when securing the ball in contact, take the tackle and avoid unnecessary ball play off the ground.

"The second half was more precise at the breakdown. The result was fair reward for their go-forward and defensive efforts.''
