MINETY coach Andy Ward was delighted to see his weakened side claim a 22-12 success at Swindon 2nd in Dorset & Wilts One North.

Swindon dominated the opening 20 minutes and it was only down to some great tackling and defensive work that saw Minety keep the hosts at bay.

The visitors opened the scoring on 26 minutes when Max Sparrow broke the line and passed to full-back Dave Cooke to touch down.

However, Swindon grabbed an unconverted score to keep things level at the break.

In a devastating five-minute period at the start of the second half, Ash Windle kicked a penalty, while Will North crashed through for a try that Windle converted.

Then Stephen Brown sliced through the Swindon defence to score Minety’s third. Windle again converting.

Minety’s line held resolute until a late Swindon try and conversion left the final score 22-12 Ward said: “We were desperately short of regulars and we held off a determined Swindon team and put in a superb performance.”

Captain Wallace Hibb added: “We put in some great tackles in the crucial first 10 minutes and never gave up. I’m really proud of the lads.”
