CHIPPENHAM captured the Worthington Bath Combination Cup with a 37-28 final win over Trowbridge on the Bath Recereation Ground.

Trowbridge had led 16-10 at half-time, but Chippenham ran in five second-half tries to gain their victory with openside flanker Nicholas Aston, who had scored their first-half try, grabbing two more to complete a memorable hat-trick.

Fly-half Lloyd Davis, who landed three penalties and a conversion of flanker Adam Sullivan’s try, had taken Trowbridge in front against Aston’s first touchdown and a penalty and conversion by scrum-half Lewis Surry.

The second half saw a dramatic turnaround as Chippenham ran up 20 points before Trowbridge scored again.

Aston opened that burst of scoring with his second try, followed by one from number eight Bobby Lyons that put Chippenham in front.

Lyons got away again to send hooker John Turner over, though all three tries went unconverted as did another by centre Fraser Clilverd.

Trowbridge replied with wing James Macfarlane running in a try from halfway at 30-21, only for Chippenham to score again through Aston’s third, that replacement Sam Saunders converted.

The last say went to a gallant Trowbridge side with their third try of the match and a second for Sullivan that Davis converted to take his tally to 13 points.

Chippenham’s man of the match award was presented to fly-half Jimmy Owen.
