CHIPPENHAM moved within two points of the South West 1 East title with a 40-8 success over Swindon at Allington Fields.

Fly-half Dom Riccio ensured that the fourth-place visitors were never in the game as he landed eight kicks en route to a 20-point haul.

From a line-out, Nick Aston snaffled the ball and crashed over for the opening try of the match and then Riccio added the extras in the 10th minute, before kicking a penalty shortly after.

But following a yellow card to hooker John Turner, Swindon’s Tom Mannion crashed over for an unconverted try.

Chippenham then mounted a number of attacks with Aminiasi Titoko, Bobby Lyons, Andy Rossiter, Bradley Doggett and Waddington being prominent in most of them.

The pressure mounted and another penalty was given away by Swindon which saw them reduced to 14 after the scrum-half was sin-binned and Riccio added three more points at 13-5.

Chippenham created several more opportunities before the interval, but only had two more Riccio penalties to show for their efforts as they went in at half-time 19-5 up.

The third quarter saw Swindon using the elements well and they pinned Chippenham down for the first five minutes and added a penalty kick to make it 19-8.

Chippenham remained calm in defence and when Ryan Surry saw a gap, he took it swiftly, gaining 50 metred before the ball was spread wide to Turner, who had Will Waddington in support to race over. Riccio added the extras for a 26-8 lead.

On the hour a superb break by Titoko was well supported by Lyons and he then timed a perfect pass to Doggett, who went steaming up the wing before scoring out wide. Riccio again added the conversion.

This left Chippenham needing one more try for the bonus point and they had to wait until the 78 minutes.

Matt Bye took a fine catch at the lineout and the ball was fed to the advancing Titoko, who burst through three tackles and laid on a perfectly timed pass to Doggett to race over the whitewash. Riccio added the extras to round off the win.
