DEVIZES Ladies made the trip to Weston-Super-Mare expecting a tough clash against the Hornettes and knowing that their defence was going to have to be tight against the free-scoring team.

Devizes started really well, holding off attacking pressure in their own 22 for long periods with some hard hits being put in by all members of the team.

The visitors slowly began to get a foothold in the game as they worked their way in to Hornettes' territory by winning a series of penalties, however, this came to nothing and the Hornettes broke the dealock on 25 minutes.

An attacking five-metre scrum on the Devizes line was well held by the visiting pack but the Hornettes crashed over the line following several phases in the 34th minute.

Devizes came out of the break with renewed vigour knowing that they were still in a two score game, unfortunately, this was short lived with one of the Hornettes running through to dot down under the posts for an easy conversion.

The visitors' heads could have dropped but kept fighting as Hornettes were searching for the their fourth try which came following a series of mauls.

Indiscipline started to kick in from the hosts and Devizes found themselves with a penalty on the Hornettes 10m line, turning down an easy three points, the London Road girls decided to go for a quick tap which led to them being held up over the line.

From the resulting 5m scrum, Devizes could not capitalise after being turned over a couple of rucks later.

Hornettes then put a gloss on the score by running in two late unconverted tries to seal a 32-0 win.
