DEVIZES head coach Stuart Haddon has said that his side belong in the South West One East division despite losing ten games on the spin.

The Saddlebacks, who have been blighted by injuries all season, lost to Windsor 21-0 on Saturday and now perch precariously close to the bottom of the league.

Despite failing to score a point against their third-placed visitors at the weekend, Haddon said his side showed the spirit they are going to need to get themselves out of trouble, having gone down to 14 men in the first half after Toby Randall was sent off.

“We want to climb up the table now and remain in this league, because that is where we think we should be with the talent we have got in the club,” he said.

“We’ve got a small squad and it has shown, with the injury problems we have had this year, that if we lose too many players from that squad then we are going to struggle.

“We need to keep everybody healthy and spread the games out a bit so people can rest properly.

“Hopefully we can pull ourselves up the league table because we really do think we deserve to be there.

“We have got the ability with a full-strength side of beating anybody in this league.”

Haddon will be looking to begin turning around their form when they travel to bottom-of-the-league Bletchley on Saturday before hosting Buckingham, who sit just one point above them in the table, the following weekend.

Devizes are still missing Chris Lewis (hamstring) but will have Tom Reed, Tom Collins and Lewis Paget back in contention for the match.

“We’re looking at Bletchley next week and Buckingham at home after,” he added.

“They have obviously been down a little bit with the results we have had, but the guys showed great strength and commitment and it was a massive team effort to keep the score down to what it was.

“You make your own luck in rugby and if you keep the commitment level up it will come and we will get the rub of the green I am sure.

“When you play against a side like Windsor who are near the top of the table and you can put in a performance like that after the start we have had to the season then I think we are going to get through this sticky patch and come out the other side.

“I’ve said to the guys this is a must win game, there is no question about it.”
