CHIPPENHAM set themselves up for this weekend’s top-of-the-table battle with Towcestrians by claiming their 12th straight win in Saturday’s South West One East derby at Swindon.

With five players in the squad either injured on unavailable, Chippenham showed their squad depth and took the lead with a penalty from the boot of Dom Riccio before adding the opening try soon afterwards.

Swindon wasted the opportunity to cut the gap as Adam Westall missed two penalties and they were made to pay as Ben Riley, Williamson, Chris Simmons and Ryan Surry combined well and wing Steve Barber cruised over the try line.

Swindon came back strongly, urged on their number eight Tom Mannion who was making good ground with his ball carrying and, after numerous phases, they scored a try and Westall converted.

Chippenham’s Aaron Ascott was also yellow-carded, but the 14 men repelled any further Swindon attacks before half time.

Swindon added their second try in the corner after half time but, after they were reduced to 14 men, Oscar Ryan extended Chippenham’s lead to four points with a penalty.

Solid pressure then forced the effort from the Swindon backline and Ryan dived over for his side’s third try.

Swindon suffered a further sin-binning of Mannion and the visitors took full advantage, Bobby Lyons forcing his way over for the bonus-point score.

Chippenham lost Barber to a yellow card in the final quarter, but their defence was excellent, keeping Swindon at bay.
