ROYAL Wootton Bassett coach Alan Low was pleased with the team performance as his side secured their first away league victory of the season.

Bassett, who had quite a few players playing out of position, made light work of bottom of the league Alchester as they secured a bonus point 47-18 victory.

Connor Tomley, who plays with the colts, was given a chance to show his talent at fly half and he impressed in his first start for the senior side.

“The guys put a reasonable performance together,” said Low.

“Connor went well and controlled the game well and we had two back rows who had to play at centre so that was a little biut disruptive.

“Nobody has put a score like that on Alchester, especially up there because it is quite an awkward place to go and they are quite an abrasive side.

“The forwards set a really good platform and could have asked for a little bit more control from the boys but we came away with a good result.

“We can’t grumble, going away from home and coming away with a result like that.”

Bassett sit fifth in the league at present and boast the highest points total in the league and the second leanest defence but have been struggling on the road.

Low is pleased with how his side are progressing however and believes they are finally finding some consistency.

“We said this year is a building year for us and things are looking pretty good,” he added.

“What we have got to do is find that extra five per cent to close a couple of those really close games out.

“It is showing in the league table and we have built ourselves into a really strong position.

“It is a lot more positive than it reads and leading into the next couple of weeks it is going to be key we keep those partnerships going.”
