ROYAL Wootton Bassett head coach Alan Low was left underwhelmed by his side’s win over strugglers Wallingford.

The Ballards Ash side put on a scintillating display in the opening 40 minutes in front the club’s vice-presidents and went in 31-0 up.

However, Low and his coaching team switched things around during the interval and the head coach was left disappointed come full time.

“First and foremost we always look at the performance,” he said. “And in the second half it wasn’t what we expected.

“I know people will look at the result and see that we got the W, but it is the performance that we focus.

“If you look at the games against Stow and Thatcham, we played a lot better and lost.”

Hamish Keith grabbed himself a first-half hat-trick for Bassett, while Tom Wickham capped his league debut, while Gavin Ougan also got himself on the scoresheet.

“In the second half, we had lots of possession and territory but we just couldn’t convert that into points,” Low said.

“Wallingford defended quite well in the second half, but it was more our own mistakes that let us down.

“It was a VPs day at the club on Saturday so there were lots of the old boys down there watching and it was a great atmosphere – it is just a shame our second half performance wasn’t as good as the first.”
