ROYAL Wootton Bassett head coach Alan Low was pleased to come away from a trip to top of the league Stow-on-the-Wold with a losing bonus point on Saturday.

Low watched his side dominate large periods of the game against a side who had not dropped a point at home, but his side made some small errors to go down 15-8.

Gavin Ougan scored the only try of the game for the visitors but Low said there was plenty to take from away from the match.

“I think we’re the only side to come out of there with any points at all,” said Low.

“We were the stronger side of the two and we were camped on their line for the last five minutes but just couldn’t get over.

“We were given a penalty in the last few minutes of the game right under the posts but trying to get the ball back one of our players used their boot and the penalty was over-turned, so it was a frustrating day at the office.

“We played with a really strong wind in the first half and should have scored more points than we did.

“We put them under a lot of pressure in the first half but didn’t score.

“It was a reasonable performance for us, we went away from home and fronted them up.

“It was just a few little errors in key areas of the pitch that cost us on the day.”

Bassett now travel to Salisbury on Saturday for the semi-final of the D&W Cup.
