DEVIZES slipped to their fourth defeat on the bounce despite a decent effort against South West One East new boys Leighton Buzzard.

Neither side could make the breakthrough in the opening stages, Devizes’ Rory Brown and Buzzard opposite number Dan David missing kicks and Buzzard number eight Tom Byard going off with a nasty-looking leg injury.

The visitors took the lead against the run of play as centre Jack Whitehouse ran a superb line and David added the extras, but Devizes responded when Brown charged down a kick and Jorge Wadman beat the cover to score.

Both sides lost players to the sin-bin – winger Chris Barter for Devizes and Geoff Branthwaite for the visitors – and home stalwart Tim Alchin was denied a try as referee Adam Wookey deemed a double movement.

Devizes struggled into the wind in the second half, not helped by losing scrum-half Tom Collins to injury, and Buzzard ran in four unanswered tries.

Zak Tift touched down, David converting, as he did when another backs move brough a further try minutes later.

Whithouse added his second, which David converted, as he did when Dan Beroux wrapped up the victory for the visitors.
