CHIPPENHAM made it nine wins out of nine in South West One East as they swept aside Maidenhead at Allington Field on Saturday.

Playing with the wind in the first half, Chris Day’s lineout steal paved the way for runs from skipper Frazer Clilverd and Lewis Surry before Luke Corbett touched down, Sam Saunders converting.

Maidenhead fly-half Matt Wells reduced arrears with a penalty but, with Chippenham’s scrummage dominant, Surry took a quick tapped penalty and Chris Day dived over.

Surry’s massive clearance kick then earned the territory from which he himself pounced for the third try before Maidenhead responded with their opening try of the match.

A second Maidenhead score brought them back to within four points and Chippenham lost Matt Bye to a yellow card before the break.

The hosts’ forwards supremacy paid dividends in the second half as they shunted their opponents back and referee David Allen awarded a penalty try that Saunders converted.

Bye’s return then saw Chippenham win a scrum against the head, the ball reaching Oscar Ryan who stepped inside superbly to score.

Another maul sucked in the visitors’ defence and Chris Chrome’s super angle gave him the next try, Saunders adding the extras.

Stepping through the gears, the ball went through several pairs of Chippenham hands before Clilverd went over for the seventh try.

And as Maidenhead lost a man to the sin-bin, Chippenham attacked well and Saunders went under the posts for a try he converted.
