RUSS Westcott scored a hat-trick of tries as they maintained their push at the top of Dorset & Wilts One North with a derby victory over their local rivals.

Seven changes to the previous week’s victorious side disrupted Pewsey’s pattern of play, however they remained competitive throughout.

The home side started well with a flowing backs move and fine inside pass by Will Grant to set up Westcott for his first.

However, on 10 minutes, a breakout by the Pewsey forwards sent lock Nav Navelinikoro over, full-back Vee Vuira adding the extras.

Further tries came in the first half as Marlborough took advantage of the slope to score four more times.

The loose play of the back row - Jamie Cresswell, Alex Roper and Joe Mitchell - gave the home team plenty of possession , while centres Jonny Mantle and Nick Clarke were in fine form, running very good lines and Clarke completed a period of possession with a superb angle and a powerful run to score.

At 26-14 down, Pewsey fought back well in the second period A break down the narrow side from a scrum on halfway saw fly-half Roko Rokowai - now at scrum-half - made a fine individual 40metre sprint, beating a couple of defenders on the way to score in the corner, Vuira converting.

With the game finely poised, Pewsey almost scored again when Navelinikoro, after a 50m dash, was tackled short of the line.

But Westcott scored after another break to complete his hat-trick and a good backs move ended with replacement wing Tom Regan scoring in the corner.
