CORSHAM found the going tough in their opening Southern Counties South encounter of the season as pre-season favourites Wimborne secured the win at Lacock Road.

The home side started well, camping inside Wimborne territory for the first 20 minutes but were unable to turn that pressure into points.

Wimborne made them pay by breaking out for their opening score and three more before the interval left the visitors in control, Corsham's only response coming via a penalty from the boot of new fly-half Ollie Deane.

The words of new Corsham coach Rich Waddington had the desired effect and in the second half, the home side kept a much better structure and shape.

Hooker Liam Snape's break from his own 22 saw him caught just before the try line, while Ed Minty and Baz Bailey carried the fight to the opposition.

Wimborne however stayed firm and scored the only try of the second half.
