RUGBY: Devizes 12 Grove 15
5:30pm Tuesday 15th October 2013 in Rugby
INJURIES cost Devizes as they slipped to defeat in South West One East against Grove.
The Saddlebacks were in control at 12-3 ahead before scrum-half and captain Tom Collins, tighthead prop Chris Lewis and second row Damon Murphy stalled their progress, allowing the visitors back into it to secure the four points.
Devizes wre in dominant form in the first half and a flowing backs move eventually set up Jorge Wadman for the opening try, fly-half Andy Thompson converting from wide out.
Grove had some respite when number eight Rory Gratwohl started a move which ended with them awarded a penalty converted by Roger Sevier.
Devizes continued to build-up pressure but were unable to add to their lead before the interval.
The second half started in the same vein, Thompson kicking to touch to allow the forwards a platform for good territory and a well-worked maul allowed Jake Richardson to bundle over from short range.
The injuries forced a reshuffle, Mark Carter coming on for his maiden first XV appearance but Grove crept into the game and were rewarded for their efforts with Nick Sevier crossing in the corner after a sustained attack on the Devizes line.
Then captain and prop James Eckert, showed a turn of pace in space and put Grove into a 15-12 lead, Sevier converting with Devizes unable to respond.
