RUGBY: Minety 43 Pewsey Vale 0
4:00pm Tuesday 1st October 2013 in Rugby
MINETY claimed their first victory of the season with a seven-try shut-out of their county rivals.
Struggling for players, Pewsey were forced to cancel their second team fixture and cobble together a combined side and within minutes of kick-off, Minety number eight Jack Ward was darting away from his opponents, creating space for centre Matt Roberts to finish the move with an early try.
Ward himself scored off the back of a driving maul and, sprinting from the 10 metre line, scrum-half Tom Fitzcharles added a third.
The bonus-point try was a team effort, with ball won by the forwards passed all the way down the line to winger Duncan Simpson, who galloped over from halfway.
Centre Luke Radcliffe converted all four and, after the interval, fullback Robin Greenway finished a patient build-up with a try in the left-hand corner.
Fly-half Phil Stephens pounced on a loose ball from the back of a Pewsey scrum for the sixth and Ward and Piers Dixon combined to set up hooker Wes Clamp for the final try.
Trowbridge 3rd came back strongly in the final half hour to overhaul a tiring Minety 2nd and win 19-10 in their Dorset & Wilts Three.
Dellam Murray’s try, converted by Andy Edwards gave Minety a narrow 7-5 lead at the break.
Edwards adding a drop goal in the second half as Trowbridge scored two converted tries.
